Sterlite Copper sponsors Rs 7.5 lakh to campaign against the use of plastics


Thoothukudi: Sterlite Copper has sponsored Rs 7.5 lakh to create awareness on the ill effects of non-recyclable plastic items.

Col.S.Krishnan, General Manager – Administration & Security handed over a cheque for Rs 7.5 lakh to Mr.Ashish Kumar IAS, District Collector, Thoothukudi at the district collectorate here on Saturday.

Sterlite decided to sponsor the awareness campaign on plastic eradication on the request from Thoothukudi District Welfare Committee (TDWC), a non-profit and charitable society formed by the district administration.

The main objective of the campaign is to create awareness on the ill effects of plastic carry bags, cups and other non-recyclable plastic items and to eradicate them in Thoothukudi. TDWC is planning to organise awareness campaigns in schools and colleges, erect display boards highlighting the ill effects of non-recyclable plastics and produce eco-friendly alternatives by involving the NGOs and SHGs.

Mr.R.Rajasekarapandy, Head – Corporate Social Responsibility, Sterlite Copper was also present during the occasion.
